As I was reading over a piece I crafted about social media relating to changes, tips and tricks, Twitter dropped this bombshell.
“Since 2013, millions of people have turned to Vine to laugh at loops and see creativity unfold. Today, we are sharing the news that in the coming months we’ll be discontinuing the mobile app.”
In addition to discontinuing Vine, 8-9% of its workforce would be cut. The tweets rolled in throughout the day with many sending their condolences to Vine. One of Vine’s co-founders chimed in with his obvious disapproval.

For me, Hype is what would happen if Periscope and Snapchat had a baby with its version of goo goo ga ga being emojis and music. It also has flashes of Super from Twitter co-founder Biz Stone. That sounds like an eerie combination.
The landscape is getting interesting with live-streaming being about as popular as gifs (I don’t care how you say it, you know what I mean). What happens to Periscope now that Facebook Live is in the game? What happens when the rumor, we all know that will come to fruition, about Instagram joining the live party is real? Let us not forget that Snapchat is probably thinking about it, too. Why wouldn’t they be?
Giphy was not playing around. They did it for the Vine and I’m not mad at them. Why not convert vines to gifs? They are already embedded into my life on Twitter and Slack. Plus, I’m not the only one that watches video on mute am I? I didn’t think so.
And, just like Vine, I’ll find myself watching it repeatedly. “That’s the great thing about the loop: it never ends. Long live the loop.”
My tips and tricks post will have to wait as I deemed this more important. If you have any tips, tricks or hacks you’ve been testing on social, let me know. You can leave a comment or find me on the socials. I’m out there lurking. As I’m always testing new things, I’m elated when I discover something that works or doesn’t work, yet.
